Join us at Space4Climate – we have two part-time roles plus a short-term contract that would suit an early career researcher or PhD student.

Climate Services Development Technical Manager

Part-time, Fixed-term up to 6 months

Closing date: 11 October

Providing technical support to the Climate Services Development Manager, the Space4Climate Board and wider membership. It is an exciting time to join the group which is playing a leading role in Earth Observation and space sector presence at COP26.

We are looking for a technical expert confident in Earth Observation analysis, methods and tools, with awareness and understanding of software development, advanced computing techniques, Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence, Big Data analysis and Geographic Information Systems. The role includes:

  • Supporting the UK Climate Change Initiative (CCI) lead scientists and the Space4Climate Task Groups in identifying and extracting from their activities the challenges and opportunities to the seamless supply chain of climate data from space.
  • Producing briefings for the Space4Climate Board and members
  • Authoring technical internal and public documents on behalf of the group including consultation responses where appropriate.
  • Project management and delivery of the group’s climate services directory.
  • Deputising where requested for the Climate Services Development Manager.

The role is hosted by NCEO, based at the University of Reading with some travel across the UK anticipated. Full details on the University of Reading website.

Data Visualisation Lead

Part-time, Fixed-term up to 6 months

Closing date: 11 October

Providing data visualisation of new and innovative content for the Space4Climate group.

We are looking for a Data Visualisation Designer to lead development of new and innovative content for our Task Group demonstrators and for use in our profile-raising activities; who will also scope with our members and devise legacy resources and guidance.

The role includes:

  • Supporting EO scientists and Space4Climate Task Groups in visualising datasets, activities and the underpinning infrastructure.
  • Producing visualisations for technical internal and public documents.
  • Devising legacy resources and guidance to facilitate members to better visualise the climate services they produce using climate satellite data.
  • Supporting the Communications and Engagement Lead by providing visualisations for member and public communications upon request.

The role is hosted by NCEO, based at the University of Reading with some travel across the UK anticipated. Full details on the University of Reading website.

These two roles may be combined into a full-time role depending on interest and suitability.

Space4Climate Project Support Officer

Part-time paid role

Approximately 60-80 hours in total up to 31 March 31, 2022 with the possibility of renewing the arrangement annually (4-5 hours per Space4Climate meeting with up to 8-10 hours writing up afterwards), £13.20 per hour plus holiday pay.
